Chihuahua, Chih.- During 2022, the Municipal Government of Chihuahua, through the Directorate of Economic Development and Competitiveness, carried out actions to promote competitiveness in the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in order to foster economic development through the generation, support, strengthening and acceleration of entrepreneurs, startups and MSMEs through collaboration agreements with strategic allies to carry out the following programs: Chihuahua Capital was one of the cities selected for the execution of MIT Reap, a program to accelerate the entrepreneurship, science, technology and innovation ecosystem with the implementation of the Massachusetts methodology to a strategic team representing the academic, business, government, civil society, investment and entrepreneurship sectors, for the definition of the strategy and actions according to the advantages and areas of opportunity of the city of Chihuahua based on impact indicators. The creation of the StartUp Chihuahua initiative to develop the technology-based entrepreneurship ecosystem, as well as the generation of critical mass for the creation of more StartUps through the Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Pre-incubation program aimed at scientific and technological development projects. The generation of patents is also an indicator contemplated in the innovation sub-index to measure urban competitiveness, which is why the Intellectual Property Program was created for the municipality of Chihuahua, a program of advice, accompaniment and follow-up for the registration of patents, utility models and industrial designs before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), in addition to encouraging technology transfer. Chihuahua currently ranks sixth in the Urban Competitiveness Index (ICU) in its 2022 edition and in the innovation sub-index it moved up four places, from 10th to 6th place: Existing StartUps in Chihuahua have been identified through a mapping and their current needs, with this a virtual platform was generated with the most important technological indicators which can be consulted at https://startupchihuahua.com/startups In 2022, 128 projects were pre-incubated in phase 1 and 23 projects in phase 2, whose progress is measured according to their level of technological maturity with the TRL index, 831 people were sensitized on innovation issues through masterclasses and 261 beneficiaries received advice on technology-based entrepreneurship. Currently, the city of Chihuahua has a patent indicator rate of 2.6%, ranked 17th, which is above the average of the rest of the cities. During 2022, 30 invention registration applications were filed with the IMPI, an important figure for the positioning of intellectual protection at the national level, in addition to the development of a catalog of registered Chihuahua inventions to promote technology transfer. In 2023 more programs will be renewed and created to have continuity in the efforts made with the objective of being a reference for innovation, economic development and technology, being an instance recognized for the support to Startups, entrepreneurship and local companies of Chihuahua Capital.
