The Governor of Chihuahua and her counterpart from the state of Sonora announced a joint investment of MXN 13,000 million pesos, in a comprehensive project that includes the construction of the highway that connects the capital of Chihuahua with Guaymas, as well as the modernization of this port for the export of goods to countries of the Pacific basin. In a work meeting held at the Government Palace in Chihuahua city, they also announced that they will manage the strengthening of the security facilities that are located on the border line that divides both entities, to prevent criminals from entering from one state to another to avoid action of justice, as well as the strengthening of the binational relationship with neighboring towns in the United States. Both agreed on the importance of taking advantage of the neighborhood to share projects of mutual interest, which guarantee the economic growth and security of the inhabitants of the region, with the support of the Government of the Republic. The head of the Executive in Chihuahua explained that in the part that corresponds to her administration, work will be done on the construction of the highway that connects La Junta, in the municipality of Guerrero, with Yécora, in Sonoran territory, and considered that the construction and modernization of the road would begin at the end of this year. This will generate a boost not only to the export manufacturing sector, but also to the agricultural sector and tourism, since Guaymas would become the closest outlet to the sea for Chihuahua citizens. It will have a length of 350 kilometers, in which the rail convenience will also be analyzed, and the modernization of the current highway is contemplated, as well as the definition of new lines. The conclusion of it could be achieved within the next five years, according to the Ministry of Communications and Public Works. The Governor of Sonora said on his behalf that Guaymas could become the main point of departure for all the agricultural, manufacturing and industrial production of Chihuahua. Currently, to export to countries such as India, China and Japan, companies located in the central area of Chihuahua must take their products to the city of El Paso, to look for the exit through the port of Ensenada towards the Pacific basin. He specified that the President of the Republic has endorsed the project to invest in the modernization of this Sonoran port, for which he has approved an important budget, so the only thing left to do is to advance in the highway project. With this road section, the distance to get from the center of Chihuahua to Sonora’s Sea would be shortened by 170 kilometers, compared to ports such as Mazatlán or Topolobampo, which are another option for the export of goods.
