During the recent commercial mission of Chihuahua in London and France, where Governor Maru Campos, the Municipality of Chihuahua, businessmen and industrial developers participated, direct investments amounted to more than USD$380 million, as well as additional investments of between US$500 and US$800 million that will generate more than 50 thousand jobs in the entity for the next few years, declared María Angélica Granados, Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE). She highlighted that these new investments include much better paid jobs, which have high technology incorporated into their processes, so the talent they will require will be very important. The secretary was clear in pointing out that the State Government is working together with the private initiative to generate the qualities or qualifications in Chihuahuans, so that they occupy said jobs, highlighting that Chihuahua no longer wants to attract investment that pays poorly. “We no longer want to sell ourselves as a state that has low-cost labor. We have qualified labor, and it is very clear when these companies arrive or expand, and they comment that it is where they find talent, professionals who have the skills to occupy these high-value positions”, she explained. The secretary reported that Chihuahua is working on two transcendental initiatives: one with the United Kingdom for this generation of talent and training; and another with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is one of the most renowned technical colleges in the world. "There are very significant efforts being made with the academy, with the productive sector, and with other countries," she added. In addition, there are supplier development initiatives throughout the state, with the intention that they also benefit from the investments attracted.
