In order to position the state of Chihuahua as the country's pioneer in the electromobility industry, the State Ministry for Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE) presented the Chihuahua e-Mobility Ready 2022 project in Ciudad Juárez, which will be developed in collaboration with the William Davidson Institute, University of Michigan. The objective is to lay the foundations for the transition to electromobility to be carried out in an orderly manner and at the same time allow for competitiveness, by increasing opportunities and benefits for Chihuahuans. The project is made up of 3 phases: Analysis of global trends; Diagnosis of capacities installed in the state for its transition, and Development of a roadmap to take advantage of the identified areas of opportunity. "A sample of public policy in this transition is the State Agency for Energy and the Environment, and being consistent with global changes, therefore the vision is to strengthen the ecosystem of the electricity industry in the state," said María Angélica Granados, head of SIDE. She added that 40 percent of the manufacturing industry in the state belongs to the automotive sector, which has allowed the development of top-level skills and talent. This, she emphasized, will make it possible to visualize the implications of these changes and determine the necessary adjustments to adapt and compete at a higher, and broader, level in this industry. For her part, Diana Páez, Senior Director of Energy and Mobility at the William Davidson Institute, mentioned that the collaboration with the State Government takes place within the framework of a historic transformation for the automotive industry at a global level, as it moves from the manufacture of internal combustion to electric. “From the Institute we intend to provide a perspective that can add value to the work that is already done here through the SIDE and our contribution is based on the expertise that we have in other markets, knowledge of the University in new mobility technologies, as well as the state of Michigan's own experience globally," she added.
